Hubner GastroIntestinal Silicea Gel 15 sachets

The active ingredient in Silicea GASTRO-INTESTINAL DIRECT is ultrafine (colloidal) silicic acid gel, the mineral silicon (Si) combined with oxygen and water.
What makes silicic acid gel so special is its exceptional ability to bind pathogens and their toxins in the gastrointestinal tract by means of a purely physical process, and these are then excreted naturally via the colon. Symptoms are relieved and regeneration of the disturbed gastrointestinal tract is supported. In addition to pathogens, silicic acid gel also binds gases and can also reduce troublesome bloating and flatulence.

What is Hyaluronan (HA)?

Hyaluronan (Hyaluronic Acid, HA) is a natural component of the body.

HA is found in the synovial fluid of the joints for lubrication, the connective tissues, the vitreous humor (fluid) of the eye, and most abundantly in the skin. It binds 1000 times its weight in water, which makes it the ultimate natural moisturizer. HA also plays a role in transporting nutrients to the body. HA is essential for good health, and as we age, the body produces less HA and the quality of the HA declines. Hyaluronan can help you maintain normal mobility and proper skin condition. Hyaluronan (HA) exists naturally in all living organisms. In the body, it is found in greater concentrations in the synovial fluid of joints for lubrication, the vitreous humor (fluid) of the eye and most abundantly in the skin.  HA supplementation can also benefit many other parts of the body like your eyes and hair. Hyaluronan, or HA, has been called the space filler of the body. It supports or provides scaffolding for all tissues and maintains healthy synovial fluid inside the synovial membrane.

Healthy fun in the Sun!

The Dawn Chorus.......gardens and hedgerows in full bloom........Blue skies as far as the eye can see and not a fluffy cloud in sight.....Warm evenings spent outdoors........day trips to the coast............long afternoon walks with family and friends. At last, It feels like Summer is just around the corner and no doubt many of you will be itching to pack your bags and jet off on your summer holiday or maybe you’re planning on staying closer to home with lots of fun days out and short breaks planned. Whatever your adventure this summer, make sure you don’t forget to pack some peace of mind in the form of a natural first aid kit. A small sandwich box thrown into your luggage, back pack or car containing natures own herbal helpers - can help treat everything from cuts & bruises, insect stings & bites to sunburn and travel sickness.

It’s important to know your needs and those of the people travelling with you – so a little careful planning prior to your holiday can ensure you’re prepared right from the start and prevent common problems from spoiling your trip. Ask yourself a few simple questions –Are you going to be at risk of bites & stings? Are you going to be eating and drinking different foods in unfamiliar environments? Do you have accident prone children? Does anyone have a fear of flying? Does anyone suffer from motion sickness? Making a check list is always a good idea.

Apart from your usual first aid kit essentials such as bandages, cotton swabs, tweezers, plasters and hand sanitizer there are a lots of tried & tested herbs, homeopathic remedies & essential oils that make great additions to any first aid kit. And what’s more they are all relatively inexpensive to buy and available from your nearest independent health store.

Bumps, cuts & grazes

Arnica , a homeopathic remedy, is great for any bruising, strains, sprains & swelling. Use the pillules orally and massage the gel gently onto affected areas. It is also a useful remedy for overcoming jet lag. Tea Tree Oil is a great natural antiseptic and can be used to prevent a wound getting infected – but only use a few drops as the pure essential oil is very concentrated. Manuka honey is also a great wound healer, however, this can be a little sticky and messy to apply straight from the pot. For ease of application opt for the preparation found in a tube. Calendula Cream has anti bacterial, anti inflammatory, astringent and anti fungal properties and is very soothing for healing wounds and burns.

Travellers Tummy

When travelling abroad and eating and drinking different foods in unfamiliar environments it may be wise to pack a supplement containing a broad spectrum of ‘friendly bacteria’ to support immunity & digestion. Make sure it is one that contains strains that can survive at higher temperatures, especially if you don’t have the option of a refrigerator.  Research has shown a unique yeast & microorganism called ‘Saccharomyces boulardii’ to be very useful in cases of travellers diarrhoea , reducing its duration – which is great news as nobody likes to lose days from their holiday with a sickness bug. Silicea Gel sachets are ideal for holidays too, offering additional support for the gastrointestinal tract in times of need. Made of colloidal silicic gel, silicia combined with oxygen and water, they are ideal for gastro intestinal upset due to the gels exceptional ability to bind to pathogens and their toxins within the GI tract and excreting them via the colon. It also has the added benefit of binding gases so can be useful for episodes of bloating and flatulence.

Ginger is popular for soothing stomach upsets and is often used to help the nausea experienced with motion sickness. This popular spice is available in chews, capsules or as a tincture.

Studies have also shown Wild Oregano Oil capsules to have antimicrobial activity and may be effective against pathogens such as Listeria and MRSA , whilst AllicinMax, a patented stabilised extract from Garlic has been also shown to be effective against bacteria such as helicobacter pylori and human parasites such as fungi, protozoa & worms. Two, useful ‘just in case’ remedies.

Keep those bugs at bay!

Essential oils, particularly citronella, eucalyptus and lemon myrtle oil can be used to deter those pesky mosquitoes – use a few drops on cotton wool pads and leave around your apartment/hotel room at night or add around 30 drops of citronella oil to a small bottle of water and spray often & liberally. Neem oil is also an effective repellent. However, if this all sounds like too much hard work – there are a number  of ready to use natural mosquito repellents available to buy from your local health store that are free of harmful chemical pesticides such as DEET.

And if you do get bitten? Dab a little lavender or tea tree oil onto the bite to relieve the itching and reduce the swelling. Combudoron, a homeopathic insect bite spray may also provide significant relief or the Homeopathic Remedy ‘Apis’.

Sun Protection

Although we are now being actively encouraged to expose ourselves to sunlight for short periods of time each day in order to synthesise Vitamin D we still need to make sure that we are sun smart and find a healthy balance between getting enough natural sunlight to maximize your vitamin D production and maintain your optimal health, while at the same time protecting yourself from damage that occurs from over exposure to the sun.

Natural Sunscreens should be a first aid kit staple. When using a sunscreen make sure it is one formulated from minerals as opposed to harmful chemicals. These days micronized zinc oxide is considered the safest form of sunscreen.  Choose a good quality natural & organic brand that contains natural plant extracts & antioxidants to enhance the effectiveness of the sunscreen whilst also moisturising the skin. Never stay in the sun to the point of burning & damaging the skin, wear protective clothing , hats & sunglasses.

We can also offer our skin protection from the inside out by supplementing with Astaxanthin (pronounced "asta-ZAN-thin") a naturally-occurring carotenoid found in algae, shrimp, lobster, crab and salmon. For humans, astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant with broad health implications one of which is its ability to protect the skin against the harmful effects of UVA damage from the sun. However, this does not mean that you can avoid wearing sun protection – it’s just another way to give your skin a little ‘added’ protection.

And should you accidentally over do your sun exposure? ThenAloe Vera Gel is ideal for healing burns whilst also helping to soothe and cool. Add a few drops of lavender as this is antiseptic and can also help soothe burns.

Pure Papaya ointment is also a great first aid kit essential, wonderful for sun parched skin and as a moisturising lip balm. This is an ultimate multi-purpose skin care product that can be used for many skin ailments. The perfect travelling companion, at home or abroad.

Allergies

If you or your loved ones are susceptible to seasonal allergies then it might be wise to include a natural antihistamine or pollenbarrier balm in your first aid kit to prevent those histamine levels from soaring. Urtica (stinging nettle) and Luffa are traditional herbal remedies used to alleviate the symptoms of hayfever, whilst urtica is also useful for prickly heat/urticaria rashes on the skin.

Holiday Stress

Rescue Remedy, a blend of flower essences, is ideal for the inevitable stress and fatigue often experienced when travelling. This is also a great one to try to minimise shock & fear – particularly for those fearful of flying.

Sore throats & sniffles

It’s not uncommon after spending many hours on a flight to return home with a sore throat and the beginnings of a cold – so why not take along some Echinacea & Sage Throat Spray to help support immunity? The antiseptic & antibacterial properties also make it a great spray disinfectant for cuts. Propolis lozenges are a great to have at hand – for immune support, to soothe sore throats and are ideal for sucking on takeoff and landing to ease pressure in the ears.

A standardised special extract of cistus villosus (rockrose) containing, a high level of polyphenols (up to 300 mg per daily dose) has been shown to coat the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat, thus providing a barrier against cold viruses. This physical effect means that no resistance is built up. Taken at the first signs of a cold or sore throat these lozenges offer additional immune support when the risk of infection is higher.
And finally, always have a good supply of bottled water close at hand as keeping adequately hydrated is vital and should never be over looked. Dehydration can come on so easily when spending a lot of time in warm climes, when travelling for any length of time or as a result of sickness.

Once you’re prepared all that’s left to do is to sit back, relax and enjoy your fun in the sun!

New Era Tissue Salts to return to UK Market!

Are you familiar with New Era Tissue Salts? Have you taken them to good effect in the past and then were bitterly disappointed when they were no longer distributed in the UK? If you are one of the many who loved NewEra Tissue salts then READ ON! And if you're new to NewEra but would like to find out a bit more then also READ ON!

During my years in the natural health industry I have heard many testimonials from customers who highly praised New Era and how they had been traditionally used to support minor ailments. It was only in the past few years that I experienced first hand just how good they were.

During a really cold spell, a few winters ago now, I developed chillblains on my toes, which, were really itchy, tender and quite painful. So, after looking for natural remedies to help alleviate my discomfort I remembered the New Era Tissue Salts and one in particular - Calc.Phos. Calc.Phos, at that time (I still have my old bottle) was a 'Biochemic remedy for general debility and for impaired digestion, teething trouble and chillblains'. Nothing ventured, nothing gained I thought! To be honest, I was quite skeptical - I never had a thorough understanding of how these little white tissue salts that dissolved on the tongue worked! Anyway, to cut a long story short - I gave them a go and they worked a treat! I was very surprised at how quickly they worked and managed to alleviate the symptoms I was experiencing. I didn't even need to take the full bottle! Of course, this is just my personal experience of them, but I was impressed. So, I was thrilled  to hear the news that the New Era Tissue Salt range is set to return to the UK Natural Products market this summer. The first product launch will be 'Combination H' for nose and sinus health and this should be available mid April - just in time for Hayfever season!

NewEra® A little bit of History...

For those of you haven't heard about New Era, then here's a brief history!

In the late 19th century Dr.Wilhelm Schuessler established his theory that 12 mineral salts were essential for good health. He thought that deficiencies, or an imbalance in one or more of theses salts at the cellular level, were related to ill health.

Using his knowledge of homeopathy, Schuessler developed tablets containing micro doses of these cell, or tissue salts, he believed could correct these imbalances.

These tablets were to be dissolved under the tongue and represented an early form of modern nutritional supplementation.

Schuessler took his Cell Salt system to the USA where it was commercially produced by a company called Luyties. The New Era Treatment Co of London (later to become known as New Era Laboratories Ltd) introduced Luyties 'Elasto' for tired and aching legs (Combination P) to the UK in 1923 and the full range of 12 tissue salts followed in 1927. These were later followed by a range of combination salts designed to treat specific minor ailments. Consumers liked being able to self select the product needed and so Combination H for hayfever, Combination Q for catarrh and B for nerves became amongst the most popular products in the UK health trade.

And so to the mid 1990's...

New Era's owners were acquired by a pharmaceutical company who only had a limited interest in the New Era part of the business and so when new EU Registration Licensing Rules were introduced it was decided to sell the company on to their Italian distributor in 2013, where, the brand continued to thrive.

Although New Era has been absent from the UK market since then there have been other alternatives to the salts that became available, however, consumers and retailers lobbied for the return of their New Era favourites.

Back to the present day...

And for all of our customers out there who were disappointed when they could no longer buy their favourite New Era tissue salts from the UK Natural Health Industry... GREAT NEWS!

British Supplement company Power Health has now partnered with the Italian owners and the range, still prepared using the established traditional methods and contain the original triturated New Era mineral cell salts just as before, but with the addition of Biotin to provide extra health benefits.

So after a short abscence NewEra are back! Revitalised and refreshed for today's consumer.

If you would like more information OR to you would like to pre-order your favourite NewEra® Tissue Salts then please contact Bare Health on 01260 408413. We are more than happy to help and answer any queries that you may have.

Lisa's Thought for the Week

A better life is possible

by Lisa Barlow

I really believe if we want something enough we can find a way of getting it. We believe change is difficult so we stay the same. We do not do ‘whatever it takes’ to change our lives. We can all grow as human beings. Where ever we happen to be on the evolution mountain, I believe we can all climb to a higher ledge. We are all on our own paths of development, WE are the most rewarding project to begin, for I don’t believe we can ‘complete’; we’re always a ‘work in progress’, evolutionary speaking. How exciting!  Just suppose that our purpose here was to experience consciousness; to live. Suppose this is it? To experience the present moment as it is. To BE with the present moment as it happens, this is all. Some spiritual thinkers believe this is it. I’ve no idea why we’re here to be honest, but I must admit I am drawn to the spiritual path. I believe emotional and spiritual healing is possible through our relationships with each other. Again I’m uncertain ‘how’ this works, it’s guess work, but I’ve been experimenting these past few years, it’s interesting.

What if we were to recognise that each interaction we have with another is an opportunity to awaken our higher self, to heal hurts that we have picked up along the way, the events and emotions that got ‘stuck’ in our DNA?  How do we become unstuck? It is my belief we have to WANT to......ENOUGH. We must want the new chapter ENOUGH to stop re-reading the last one. Sometimes it is necessary to go back in order to let go of what got stuck...back then. You can then live in the present without this baggage. Life can become lighter if you empty the rucksack of the past with all the hurts, rejections and disappointments. I like the saying ‘if the train didn’t stop at your station, it wasn’t your train’. There are things which happen to us in life that we didn’t ask for, didn’t plan for and most definitely didn’t want. And maybe it always comes back to when you have no control over the situation, return to your response. It is an expression of your highest version of yourself, the place where love resides.

Stress – What does it mean to you? AND... how do you deal with it?

Dealing with Stress...naturally

by Melanie Ratcliffe

Stress – defined by the concise oxford dictionary as:

1. pressure or tension exerted on a material object.
"the distribution of stress is uniform across the bar"
synonyms:
pressuretensionstrain, tightness, tautness;
raretensity
"the distribution of stress is uniform across the bar"

2      2. a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances.
"he's obviously under a lot of stress"
synonyms:
strainpressuretension, nervous tension, worryanxiety,nervousness

I can truly say that I know what it feels like to experience the effects of ‘stress’. In my 38 (almost 39) years, I have experienced a great deal of stress. From an early age I have been able to tie myself into knots without even trying ,over, what I can now look back and call ‘trivial’ things – however, back then they wern’t trivial at all. Well, not to me. It was relative to my circumstances and to that specific point in time.

And I guess that as we journey through life we adapt and change...we deal with things differently according to circumstance and experience. What was once a major stress can soon become minor and vice versa. We all react & respond differently. We are all unique.

The American Institute for Stress states

‘Stress is not a useful term for scientists because it is such a highly subjective phenomenon that it defies definition.’

I am inclined to agree!

Exams were always a good one to get myself in a state over, peer pressure, family bereavements,   worrying what people think... that was another big one.

But these now seem so insignificant to the stress I experienced when my late husband, Dave was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the age of 34 and the pain of losing him 9 months later. As you can imagine, this took stress to a whole new level and it wasn’t a good place to be in. This stress bought with it, all sorts of physical symptoms & pain alongside a barrage of emotions, mental stress and very sadly, huge amounts of grief.

However, that loss & stress bought about reflection, transformation, change then inspired & reignited something in me and I started my own business – a whole new experience of stress! Positive stress that helped me to plunge into a whole new world I hadn’t ventured into before and a lot of negative stress that came with it – pressure I placed myself under. But it was a dream I had wanted to pursue and now I had an inner determination AND an opportunity to make it happen.

And then some more stress... the start of new relationship which also bought with it a new level of stress, good and bad. However out of it came a deep love and in September last year, I remarried and although this was at times stressful, organising and planning, It was such a joyful and happy experience that elicited very different responses to the life events I had experienced 5 years before.

So why am I sharing this with you? I'm just one person in millions, who has a story like this. Yes, i've just touched on my experiences, but the purpose is to illustrate a few examples of stress really. Stress takes it's toll over time - Ive often wondered why I havent collapsed in a heap, I couldnt see any lasting physical symptoms, but I've experienced exhaustion, brain fog, lack of clarity, sleepless nights, anxiousness, digestive upset. I do get tired easily nowadays and that is one of the effects stress has had on me i'm sure. And the biggest lesson im now learning? I need to make some time for me and learn how to adapt to and manage my stress past and present. It's down to me to make the changes.

Stress – it comes in all shapes and sizes and can be positive as well as negative.

Managing stress – I still think I don’t deal with stress well – however, when I stand back, I see that I do deal with it, in my own way, sometimes well others not too well. But at what cost is this to my health? What I know now is that long term stress is not healthy for me physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually and it’s not good to be on the continual hamster wheel of stress and always having that feeling of ‘fight’ or ‘flight’ – it’s draining and exhausting and prevents me living my life to it’s potential. It’s like giving a piggy back to  a ‘burglar of life'. I no longer want to be robbed! So, now i'm in a place of change with a desire to move forward and move forward I shall :)

I find myself in a very fortunate position though. And I'm very grateful for that. Even though as an individual I have experienced a great deal of stress in many guises, my passion for natural health and opening my own health store and complementary therapy centre has brought me to a unique place. I am in the perfect setting to address my stress levels and tackle them head on. I have a team of experienced and professional therapists on hand who have supported me greatly on my journey forward and i’m greatly blessed to have a wonderful supportive network of family & friends and a loving husband. I also have my own knowledge and experience to draw upon. But ultimately learning to cope with and manage stress is a strategy 'I' have to put in place and it’s just my personal opinion...but there isn’t just one pill to fix it or to supress it. It's not always about putting our health in the hands of others and letting them do the work. We have to actively, if we are in the position to, help ourselves. Life is dynamic, it is constantly evolving and changing and I for one do not want to get 'stuck' and miss out on the ride!

According to American Institute of Stress - stress is difficult to define because it is so different for each of us. They give a great analogy:
‘A good example is afforded by observing passengers on a steep roller coaster ride. Some are hunched down in the back seats, eyes shut, jaws clenched and white knuckled with an iron grip on the retaining bar. They can’t wait for the ride in the torture chamber to end so they can get back on solid ground and scamper away. But up front are the wide-eyed thrill seekers, yelling and relishing each steep plunge who race to get on the very next ride. And in between you may find a few with an air of nonchalance that borders on boredom. So, was the roller coaster ride stressful?
The roller coaster analogy is useful in explaining why the same stressor can differ so much for each of us. What distinguished the passengers in the back from those up front was the sense of control they had over the event. While neither group had any more or less control their perceptions and expectations were quite different. Many times we create our own stress because of faulty perceptions you can learn to correct. You can teach people to move from the back of the roller coaster to the front, and, as Eleanor Roosevelt noted, nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.
So it’s down to how we CONTROL our stress, how we PERCEIVE it and how we CHOOSE TO RESPOND to it?
On Saturday 28th February Bare Health (this is the business I was talking of earlier) is hosting the first of series of holistic health workshops to be held throughout 2015. Workshops designed to help you live a healthy lifestyle to your fullest potential, to offer advice, tips, tools and techniques that you can use and adapt to your everyday life and life events. Each workshop will cover a specific health related theme and take on board differing approaches to address the aspects of mind, body & soul. Bare Health - Helping you to find your healthy balance.

For more details of our forthcoming events click ‘here’
Our first workshop is on the topic of ‘Stress’
We ALL experience stress at some stage in our lives, different causes, different degrees, different effects. STRESS is NOT a sign of weakness, it should not be a taboo subject and we shouldn’t be afraid to say I CANT COPE. It’s how we choose to perceive it, how we respond to it and how we manage it that matters. How we make sure that it doesn’t take its’ toll on our health and prevent us from the enjoyment of this life we are given.

The two ladies below have had an incredible impact on my journey forward in terms of support and helping me to find positive and realistic ways to look at Stress and how I can learn to manage it effectively - they have both, in their own unique ways provided me with a different approach to dealing with stress. They have a great deal to offer to all.

I don't mind admitting I'm still learning and I still have walls to climb - I guess I always will be, that's just life. But i'm open to change and so  I'll be at the workshop on the 28th and I just know i'll leave it feeling invigorated, inspired and empowered. Armed with new tools & remedies to 'Love my Stress!'

Saturday 28th February 2015 ‘Love Your Stress’ – holistic approaches to dealing with stress.

Tools to Manage the Mind 10.00 – 11.00am

The first workshop, delivered by Personal Development Coach, Lisa Barlow, will provide opportunity to explore tools and techniques to manage the mind.

“During this one hour session we will look at the causes of stress, how it manifests in our lives and how we can start to change our relationship with it from one of fear to one of empowerment. You will learn how mindful breathing exercises can help to centre the mind and balance the body and understand the power of self talk, how improving this can alter how we view our lives and ultimately how we feel".

Remedies to Restore Emotional Balance 11.30am – 12.30pm

Enjoy an absorbing hour’s workshop with Jane Bowdenleigh on how to ease life’s stresses using Bach Flower remedies. The remedies are an established therapy, used by generations since the 1930s and Rescue Remedy is known world-wide.

Rescue Remedy is the first remedy most people will consider when experiencing stress or trauma.  A remedy composing of 5 of the Bach Flower essences, Jane will explore when and how to use ‘Rescue’. Having had a youth of chronic fatigue, M.E and poor digestion, Primrose set out on a mission to understand her body and what was needed to maintain it in perfect health. This led her into Naturopathic and Complementary health studies and a degree in Homeopathy the knowledge of which she has used to design natural and wholesome food.  She started with muesli as breakfast is (as a nation) our favourite meal of the day due to its quick assembly and had a desire to  make it into a healthy food for any occasion, not just first thing in the morning.

By including ingredients you might associate more with lunch or dinner such as beetroot and carrot she wanted create a versatile health food that tasted great and could be eaten as a healthy snack whatever time of the day. Ideally for a more balanced diet we should be eating as much or more fruit and vegetables than we do grains.

From this it seemed logical that if she was going to add a healthy ingredient like vegetables why not add other nutritious ingredients not found in breakfast muesli that support good health.

By incorporating beneficial and thoughtful ingredients into their muesli Primroses kitchen hope to make keeping a balanced diet easier.

Since then Primrose has developed new products in order to make healthy eating a little easier and encourages her customers to empower themselves through the food they eat and listen to their bodies.

PRIMROSES MUESLI and NUT BUTTERS have become a best seller at Bare Health and a favourite of the Bare Health team too! We also love our Nutribullets and making delicious fresh smoothies, so when we saw these little beauties we just had to get them in store :)
